Learn the basics of gardening
Spring is here and thoughts of gardening fill our thoughts. What should we plant and where do we begin? Guest speaker, Clayton Carter of Failbetter Farm in Unity, shares the in's and out's of planning and planting a garden at the Winslow Public Library on Tuesday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m..
Learn the basics of good gardening and how you can turn a small plot of land into a productive garden. Learn from an experienced grower what varieties to grow and how to care for your garden in order to have an abundant harvest. Learn to 'grow healthy' the natural way.

Sportsmen conference, wild game dinner planned
Unity College will host the first Unity College Sportsmen’s Conference and Wild Game Dinner at the Unity Centre for the Performing Arts on April 19, from 4 to 10 p.m.
Cost is $25 for VIP, $20 for seminar and fixings, $12 individual event with student rates available. Proceeds from the event will benefit Operation Game Thief, Catch-A-Dream and the Unity College Archery Club trip to the 2007 World 3D Championship.
The program of events will include an exotic game dinner from 5 – 7 p.m. The dinner will feature both traditional and exotic meats including beaver, bear, moose and deer, among other items.
An art show will feature eight award-winning Maine artists featuring a wide range of art from paintings to taxidermy.
A cornerstone event of the conference will be a whitetail deer seminar by world renowned photographer and outdoor writer Charles J. Alsheimer from 7 – 10 p.m. Topics covered will include whitetail behavior, the moon’s influence on whitetail deer, sign interpretation, hunting strategies, and quality deer management.
