   Good Citizens Awards Announced

    Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter of
the Daughters of the American
Revolution (DAR), of North
Anson, has announced two good
citizen award candidates who
were chosen by their respective
schools. They are: Ashley
Lynn Cates, daughter of Calvin
and Mary Cates of Moscow.
Ashley is a senior at Upper
Kennebec Valley High School.
Katelyn E. Kirk, daughter of Dale
and Elaine Kirk of Madison.
Katelyn is a senior at Madison
Area Memorial High School.
A date will be chosen soon for
the Good Citizen Award ceremony.
Invitations will be sent out
to the students and their parents,
and faculty members are welcome
to attend.
For those of you who are unfamiliar
with the Good Citizen
Award process, a brief description
follows. DAR chapters
approach local area high schools
to find out if the school wishes to
have their senior class participate.
After the school selects the
DAR Good Citizen winner, the
winner may choose to compete in
the DAR Good Citizen
Scholarship Contest. To compete,
the student is given a
required application to be completed.
The scholarship entry
includes Part I and Part II. Part I
consists of the student’s activities/
projects; an explanation of
how he/she has incorporated the
four qualities of a Good Citizen
(dependability, service, leadership,
and patriotism) into his/her
life; an official school transcript,
and two letters of recommendation.
Part II consists of the student
writing an essay.
