The Skowhegan Area High
School field hockey team was
honored March 6 at the State
House by State Rep. Donna
Finley (R-Skowhegan) and the
entire Legislature on winning the
2007 Class Astate championship.
Rep. Finley presented the team
with a legislative sentiment recognizing
the team for its outstanding
accomplishment of winning
10 state titles. Legislative
sentiments are joint orders that
are used to congratulate or recognize
a person, group or other entity
for a significant achievement
or civic accomplishment.
Rep. Finley also honored team
members who were named to the
Academic All American team as
well as Melissa Hancock who
was chosen as Miss Maine Field
Hockey for 2007.
“They are not only number one
field hockey players, but are academic
achievers as well,” Rep.
Finley said on the floor of the
House. “Every senior on the team
was named to the academic All
American team.”
She also recognized Coach
Paula Doughty and her assistant
coaches for the job they have
done over the years. “Coach
Doughty’s philosophy is that
every girl who wishes to play has
an opportunity to do so starting at
a young age,” she said. “It is most
rewarding to watch these young
gals mature into very talented and
brilliant young women.”
