Zachary Cyr helping the homeless for the holidays

by Mark Huard

Zachary Cyr, 13, of Vassalboro, earned $2,000 last year for the homeless shelter in Waterville by collecting cans and bottles along with donations in the community. He purchased taxi vouchers, gift cards at Wal- Mart, Bruger King and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Last year was a really special year. Mike Marston, director from the shelter in Waterville, allowed Zachary and his family to attend their Christmas morning party and Zach was allowed to meet everyone at the shelter and pass out the gifts Everyone was very appreciative and there were lots of tears shed that day.

Zachary was especially proud of himself and that made his holiday very special.

Cyr has a bottle account set up at Joka's in Waterville , Winslow Redemption in Winslow and Jim's Variety in Fairfield. Zacks continued success is thanks to area community people and businesses like you for donating cans, bottles and cash donations.

Zachary is headed out again this year on December 9 and again on December 16 to start collecting. He was hoping that this year would be as successful if not even better than prior years.

Cyr is s student at Huard's Ju-Jitsu Karate Dojo in Winslow and has been ever since the age of six. He is currently a third degree brown belt working towards his second degree. Zack has a heart of gold. He loves to help other people feel proud.

Zach’s cousin Teraysa is also helping by having her classmates involved. If anyone wants to make a donation, they can contact Zack’s mom Terry Cyr at 649- 8371.

This will be Zachary's fourth year of helping the homeless for the holidays! Thank you Zachary for your warm heart and being the special person that you are.
